People Who Know a Lot

Check out his downloads section and youtube channel for tips on using BlueSkyPlan and Exocad software for patient case and implant planning. He has a farm in Swanee, Tennessee where he teaches basic and advanced implant, denture, crown and bridge and partial denture case design, along with 3-D printing and milling strategies. Cory has online courses for purchase that include STL and DICOM files for practice and design.

Baron has online resources for 3-D printed accessories that can make both your analog and digital dentistry work even better. He offers online courses for learning Meshmixer and BlueSkyPlan and his courses on removable orthodontics can help speed your treatment planning and case completion.

Rick Ferguson is the bomb when it comes to 3-D printing. His resin profiles for the Phrozen printers along with his printer accessories have improved the predictability of cases for dentists all over the world. His facebook group, Dental 3D printing group, can help to answer almost any question regarding printing failures or suggestions on making the print better. His line of accessories for the Phrozen printers was recently bought by Medidenta and can be purchased through them. Rick’s printing profiles can be accessed through his webpage under What You Need, and the profiles are downloaded from his google drive page and can be imported directly into ChiTuBox software for printing.

Software to Help You Do the Work

www.chitubox.com

A free downloadable 3D printing slicer program that takes your STL file into a printable format for a multitude of printers. Do a google search for version 1.95 to get a stable version that doesn’t need any modifications. Rick has a video on his site for setting up ChiTuBox 3 with his profiles and accessories. You only need to download the basic version, not the pro version.

Meshmixer

Meshmixer isn’t a dental program but it’s a really useful STL manipulation program for cleaning up a file and getting it watertight for a slicer program. It isn’t supported by Autodesk any longer so there aren’t any updates but this version works just fine.

Courses to Take

www.themodinstitute.com

Wally Renne has created a series of free downloads on using Exocad for various procedures. He also has in-person and online classes to help improve your printing predictability. There is also an online store for purchasing items for your printing processes. For your convenience, I’ve attached the PDF downloads here since they’re free anyway.

CDocs (formerly known as Cerec Doctors) is the premier educational facility for Cerec training. They offer a wide range of classes, both online and on campus in Scottsdale, Arizona, Toronto, Ontario Canada, and Charlotte, North Carolina, in scanning techniques, surgery, principles of full arch rehabilitation, auxiliary training, orthodontics, practice management, the works. Since they’ve teamed up with Spear Education, they offer the full range of Frank Spear’s Facially Generated Treatment Planning principles, protocols for sleep medicine, practice management and office mentoring.

YouTube Channels to Subscribe To

There are multiple Youtube channels to help with learning dental 3D software.

Dental Class

Miguel Soares has some very impressive videos from simple crowns to complex AllOnX setups. His website has some free downloadable libraries of tooth designs.

Master Dental Technician

Another great channel for learning designs and tips in Exocad.

N Cory Glenn

Cory’s webpage will direct you to his YT channel as well but this I keep bookmarked at the top. He shows real-world cases with both successes and not-so-successes so you can learn how to troubleshoot before you say “shoot, I’m in trouble”…

Danny Domingue DDS

Danny is an incredible oral surgeon in Louisiana who has literally pioneered techniques on “growing keratinized gingiva out of his butt”, as said by Cory Glenn. His and Cory’s article on The Full Arch Healing Abutment that you can find on google scholar will make you re-think your suturing technique and how you do AllOnX pickups after surgery. He, Cory and Baron also wrote an article on using a piezotome to speed up removable orthodontics using distraction slices made with a digital surgical guide.

What I Would Love to Do

I’d love to get together a group of dentists who would be willing to collaborate over cases from start to finish. Digital or analog would be fine, but the biggest thing would be documentation. I’ve always been horrible at taking photos. I’ll grab my IOC for a quick pick but it’s never a great pic of really the whole scenario going on. I wouldn’t mind meeting at my office although it’s not the largest of spaces so we’d have to limit the number, but we could throw the images on the TV and talk about cases and share ideas, even across multiple product lines and practice philosophies. We could even have some light snacks, if others wanted to chip in a little.
